Billericay Lawn Tennis Club

The ethos of the club is to provide ‘Tennis for All’, to accomplish this a wide variety of skills and abilities is required from the coaching team. We have 4 full time coaches and 3 part time coaches providing both group and private tuition, coaching at all levels and all ages.


As you will see from the brief précis  of the coaches, the skills offered from each coach are very specific from Mini Players to Adults, from Beginners to Performance Players the coaching team have and can share much of their knowledge in order to deliver the ‘Tennis for All’ ethos.

Colin Clay (Head Coach)

Qualified TDA LTA Level 3

Colin worked for the LTA for over nine years as the Tennis Development Manager for Essex. During this time, much experienced was gained working in all aspects of Tennis. A key interest in developing young players, enabling them to play and compete successfully at club and national level. Colin has worked as an integral part of the national performance scheme for the LTA and understands the requirements to be a ‘true’ performance player. Sharing the experience of being a tennis parent gives a rounded view of playing and participating.

Graham Lister  (Coach)

Qualified CCA LTA Level 2

Graham learned to play in his native Australia before pursuing a successful career in ‘pop’ music. Has been coaching since the 1980’s and has spent the last 10 years as Head Coach at Billericay building a productive junior program.

Alex Rouse (Coach)

Qualified LTA Level 1



Alex has coached for many years in Germany, recently returning home and benefiting Billericay LTC with his wealth of experience. As a player Alex enjoyed success as a junior player and in 1991 achieved an ATP ranking of 750. Although Alex has a very busy schedule he still represents Essex at County Level.

Rebecca Garner (Coach)

Qualified DCA Level 1

Rebecca started playing tennis at the age of 12 progressing to play in the Essex County Squads at 16. At 17 she received a scholarship to the University of Memphis playing collegiate tennis for 4 years and attaining a degree in Sports Management. A very productive tournament schedule winning over 40 events and achieving a LTA rating of 3.1. Rebecca returned to the UK in 2004 and has coached at Billericay LTC since her return.

Nichola Waring

(Head Coach Mini Tennis)

Qualified DCA LTA Level 1

Employed at Deane’s School as a Community Tennis Coach gaining much experience in delivering tennis to players 10 and under including working with schools and in a very large club program. A qualified LTA tutor in delivery of Key Stage Education courses to support teachers and young players. A specialist working in a very important area of attracting and developing young players.

Liz Brooks (Assistant Mini Coach and Child Protection Officer)

Qualified Tennis Assistant

Liz has been a keen member of the club for many years. Working in local schools providing care for children with individual needs. Assists in the development of young players and supports the juniors in providing regular competitive sessions on a Saturday Morning.

Danielle Leggatt

Qualified LTA Level 2

Danielle has played tennis for Billericay Tennis Club since the age of 8. She has worked closely alongside the coaching team for the past two years and has now become our first apprentice coach with responsibility for Mini Tennis and working with the Schools Sports Partnership in local primary and secondary schools.

Colin Clay is the Head Coach and is responsible for all coaching matters and his coaches are Graham Lister, Alex Rouse, Rebecca Garner, Nicki Waring and Liz Brooks.
